Circle the Cirque Crest
Day 4 Tuesday, September 7, 2004
This would be somewhat of a break day for us. Our only plan was to
leave Marion Lake and climb up into Lakes Basin, pick out a nice lake for a campsite and
spend the day relaxing, fishing, and exploring. Lakes Basin is a beautiful, seldom visited basin with numerous lakes, most of which were filled with trout. The John Muir trail used to pass through this basin but was abandoned sometime in the 20s, I believe. Remnants of the trail can still be found including the section over Cartridge Pass. It has been said that this basin would be as popular as Rae Lakes if the JMT still passed by this way. Luckily for us, it does not and we were treated with a peaceful layover day void of any company. All the photos below were taken of some of the scenes in Lakes Basin. |
