Circle the Cirque Crest
Day 7 Friday, September 10, 2004
Our original plan had been to descend the Muro Blanco into Pardise Valley
and then out to our truck, completing our loop. However, to the disappointment of
Brian, I felt that with the condition of my boot, it would be better to stay on
established trails instead of the heavy bushwack down the Muro Blanco. So, we set out on the Bench Lake trail to join up with the John Muir trail. We took a long break on Pinchot Pass where we met up with a Canadian couple in their 50s. They had attempted the JMT more than 20 years earlier and did not get very far before giving up. They were very interesting to talk with and their adventures had included a bicycle trip across Africa as well as severl treks to Everest base camp. We had planned on camping at Twin Lakes for the night but ended up staying at a small lake on the opposite side of the trail. We had a nice talk with a horse packer who was supplying a group of hikers doing a section of the JMT. The lake was in a beautiful setting and the views of the mountains in the distance was a stunning sight which we had not expected. This lake was a much better choice for camping than Twin Lakes. |
